Why are servers still installed just to keep logs?
Hotels, cafés, schools, hospitals and any company giving internet to staff must keep traffic records under Turkish Law No. 5651. The traditional way is a server that receives firewall logs — simple on paper, but disks fill up, servers fail or get encrypted by ransomware, and nobody notices when logging stops.
What cloud-based log retention changes
- No server, disks or maintenance: a predictable yearly subscription instead of hardware.
- Records live outside the building: a delete-proof (WORM) cloud archive survives fire, theft or ransomware on site.
- All branches in one place: every branch firewall connects to the same account.
- Silent devices get noticed: the service alerts when a device stops sending logs.
What to ask a cloud provider
- Are logs sent over an encrypted channel (TLS) with an organisation-specific certificate?
- Is each organisation's data and access separate?
- Can integrity be proven with hourly seals (hash chain) and timestamps?
- Is the archive object-locked against deletion?
- Can an evidence package be verified offline by an expert?
- Is the timestamp qualified under Law 5070 where required?
Marta Teknoloji's cloud solution: LogHane
LogHane is a cloud-based log retention service for FortiGate, compliant with Law 5651 and KVKK. Your FortiGate sends logs over TLS with your organisation's certificate; every hour is sealed and chained, the daily Merkle root is timestamped and segments are written to an object-locked cloud archive.
